STILL BURNING
Check check, anyone there?
Reviving this old blog, not that it ever was much of anything to start. Figured people have some extra time on their hands these days, so why not?
We’re in the midst of COVID-19, the gnarliest global pandemic in a minute. As a young business owner, it’s uncharted waters. That post will come later - but this one is just to going to just recap what we’re doing, and just a little bit of why.
First off, we’re OPEN for business, for now. The state of California and city of San Diego has deemed us an essential business as a food establishment, allowing us to serve takeaway only. After much deliberation with our crew, we’ve adjusted our flow to create distance and eliminate cash/card transactions - safety is the priority for all.
With that said, to reiterate how we’re doin’ this, for now;
- ONLINE orders only, via our app (Toast Takeout) or this website - (click ORDER ONLINE)
- Once your order is placed, you walk up to our door, we bring out your goods. That simple.
ALSO; employee relief stuff;
-A huge part of staying open allows us to avoid complete layoffs/furloughs. However, our labor cost has had to be cut a bit. We’ve added merch to the website, with more coming soon, which 100% of proceeds will be split equally among employees to help soften the blow of hours being cut. Find that here: scrimshawcoffee.com/store . In addition to that, we will be adding a “DONATE” button, as to also help staff if you feel like doing that.
All in all, the last two weeks have been a total roller coaster for everyone. And one of the deciding factors of staying open was the complete gratitude our neighborhood has shown for us doing exactly that. We seriously are feeling the love, and know we have a job to do through this. We’re here for you, just as you’ve been there for us.
I’m going to work on keeping this blog updated - with a behind the scenes look at how we maneuver through this, and run our business overall. This little shop has been through a TON in the last 2.5 years, and I’ve done a horrible job at documenting the struggles and successes, but I’d like to start now. The proverbial candle in the wind has flickered constantly since we’ve opened - but the fact remains, this candle is still burning.
‘17 til infinity.
