Job Description: Line Cook
Status: Part Time – approx. 22-25 hours/week
Compensation - $17.30/hr, + tips (approx. $8-$10/hr), earn Paid Time Off and optional Medical/Vision/Dental (with employer contribution) after 90 days, plus miscellaneous perks and discounts

We are a 6 year old café (Scrimshaw Coffee) and 3 year old coffee roasting company (Field Trip Coffee Roasters).
Scrimshaw Coffee is a mid-volume café with a full food and coffee program. We serve our own roasted coffee, and have a simple, yet thorough and thoughtful food menu which we take seriously and are prideful of. We believe we’re one of the most intentional and thoughtful cafes in town and expect every new crew member to feel the same, while bringing to the table qualities that will allow us to be even better. OVERALL:
The Line Cook reports to the Kitchen Manager, General Manager and Owner. They are integral to ensure the cafes success. A line cook must be excited to work as part of a team, have an ever-increasing knowledge of food and industry trends, and must adhere to the mission of ensuring the cafes success through guest service and producing quality products.
THE DAILY VIEW:
-Adheres to the Companies core values. Ensure they are followed and be examples of them. Those are, Grit, Grace, Hospitality and Possibility.
-Complete prep lists according to recipe, including but not limited to portioning, chopping, storing, peeling, weighing, measuring, rinsing and mixing ingredients.
-Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklists
-Operate ovens, stoves, burners, toasters, griddles, etc
-Test foods to determine if they have been cooked and prepared sufficiently
-Cleanly and efficiently run a station, or multiple stations either alone or as part of a team
-Setup and break down workstation(s)
-Wash and disinfect kitchen area, dishes, tables, tools, knives, equipment, etc
-Inventory ingredients, and produce daily, and when needed or requested
-Coordinate and communicate with team and management to identify ordering and prep needs
-Keep team and management aware of any kitchen needs, such as broken or new equipment needs
-Approach all guest and employee encounters in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner
-Responsible for food safety and food quality within the operation
-Maintain all safety, food handling and sanitation standards
-Ensure station is clean and organized at all times
-Ensure personal appearance is clean and professional
-Willing to assist in tasks that require extra help, including but not limited to stocking, unloading orders, unpacking food and produce, cleaning inside and outside areas, assist in any and all tasks assigned by the shift supervisor
-Greet & assist guests while maintaining core values
-Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations
Desired Skills and Experience;
-Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application
- A minimum of 1-year café or restaurant experience, preferably back of house
-Must already have, or be willing to acquire a Food Handler Certification
-A trained palate with the ability to anticipate seasonal changes in produce and recipe variations based on yield, seasonality, shortages, etc. A strong ability to problem solve and substitute on a moment’s notice.
-Be comfortable working in a team environment
-Able to quickly assess and prioritize needs
-Strong Interpersonal skills, a desire to interact with people and guests
-Desire to work in a fast paced, growing company
Non-Negotiable Requirements;
-Morning, weekend and holiday availability required – a minimum of 3 days of unrestricted availability, with at least 1 day being a weekend day
-Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties
-Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
-Able to read and follow written English instructions
-Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, using appropriate techniques and tools
-Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 50 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
-Able to work and thrive in a high-stress environment that has a quiet to moderate noise level
-Able to safely navigate the café, both behind the counter and in the dining room
-Able to comply with an enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards
